Spelling Bee Returns with Hiss, Roar

The Spelling Bee was back in National Harbor, Md., after a cancellation in 2020 and scaleback last year. The host for the final rounds will be well-known actor and TV presenter LeVar Burton. Returning as an analyst is last year's champion, Zaila Avant-Garde. This year's winner will receive $52,500 in cash prizes and $400 worth of works from Encyclopedia Britannica. The second-place and third-place finishers will receive cash prizes of $25,000 and $15,000, respectively. Also receiving cash rewards will be the next three finishers ($10,000 for fourth, $5,000 for fifth, and $2,500 for sixth). More widely, all participants will receive a one-year subscription to the Merriam-Webster Unabridged Online dictionary and to Britannica Online premium; all participants will also receive a 2022 U.S. Mint Proof set.
