Helen Keller gained fame by learning how to communicate and even speak despite being struck by a fever that left her blind and deaf before she was 2. She was an inspiration to a great many people throughout her long, famous life.

- Never bend your head. Hold it high. Look the world straight in the eye.
- Self-pity is our worst enemy and if we yield to it, we can never do anything good in the world.
