Snowboarding
Snowboarding is a relatively recent addition to the Winter Olympics, making its debut at the 1998 Winter Olympics, in Nagano, Japan. In Olympics competition, snowboarders compete in giant slalom, halfpipe, and cross events. Snowboarders are like skiers except that they maneuver on their boards. The giant slalom resembles the alpine skiing event of the same name. Halfpipe is exactly what its name suggests: competition on a giant snow formation that resembles a sawed-off half of a pipe. |
