Egypt to Restore 600 Coffins from Pharaonic Eras
January 22, 2017 A two-country initiative will restore more than 600 coffins from Ancient Egypt.
Both countries also want to increase tourist visits to levels seen before the 2011 uprising that resulted in the exit of President Hosni Mubarak. That set of events resulted in the country's first free election, a government run by members of longtime opposition party the Muslim Brotherhood, and then a coup led by current President Abdul Fattah Al-Sisi. The coffins, which date to various eras in the country's pharaonic history, are in storage at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. |
