Former President George Bush Dead at 94
December 1, 2018 Bush retired from politics after that. He spent much time at his family's retreat in Kennebunkport, Maine, and at his home in Houston and sometimes attended baseball games there. Baseball ran strong in the Bush genes. Bush was a star player at Yale, playing first base on a team that made the College World Series twice. His son, George W. Bush, was once owner of the Texas Rangers. Bush led a largely quiet life for a time. When his oldest son, George W. Bush, was elected President in 2000, Bush Sr. made many public appearances in support of his oldest son, who had been Governor of Texas from 1995 to 2000. George's brother Jeb was also a state chief of executive. He served as Governor of Florida from 1999 to 2007. The former Navy pilot had penchant for skydiving. He celebrated his 80th, 85th, and 90th birthdays by jumping from a plane. Late in life, he forged an unlikely partnership with his onetime rival Clinton. The two formed a foundation and embarked on a number of charitable and diplomatic missions; among those was the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund, forged in the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. In 2011, then-President Barack Obama presented Bush with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. It was one of many awards that he was given in his long life of service. Bush had suffered from lower-body parkinsonism since 2012; as such, he was confined to a wheelchair for the last years of his life. That didn't stop him from shaving his head in 2013 in support of a Secret Service agent's son who was fighting leukemia. The George Bush Presidential Library is on the campus of Texas A&M University, in College Station. Also there is the graduate public policy school the Bush School of Government and Public Service.
